Masks are typical conventions used to horrors to conceal the identity of the killer. •Props: the Knife tip at the end of the mask is used as a visual code to connote that there wil be quite a bit of blood in the movie •Camera shots: The photo was shot as a close up, but most likely edited so that the audience could only see the mask. •Colours: The colours used in the poster were black, white and red. Red to signify the bloodshed yet to be wrought, the white to represent the cold steel of the murder weapon-to-be (knife), and black to connote the darkness the killer lurks before pouncing on their victim •Typography: All The typography is very simple - short but bold and easy to understand. you don't need to give away too much with the text. it gives us the title of the movie, the release date, and a new catch phrase, conventions usually seen in horror posters. •Mood/Styling: The mood in the poster provokes a sense of fear, as the darkness presented in the poster could represent the darkest parts of your imagination and you could imagine that this was near you, and the killer was waiting for you. the picture plays with your imagination and emotions |

•By: Kimberly Peirce •Info: Remake of 1976 Supernatural Horror directed by Brian De Palma •Synopsis: Carrie White, a shy girl bullied by her peers and abused by her deeply superstitious/religious mother, who unleashes telekinetic terror on her small town after being pushed too far at her senior prom. •Production company: Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM), Screen Gems, Misher Films •Cast: Chloë Grace Moretz, Julianne Moore, Gabriella Wilde •Mise en Scene •Lighting: The lighting is high key and highlights every feature on the girl's face. •NVC: The girl is looking into the camera, possibly addressing the audience. •Setting: There isn't a specific setting as the photo was taken as an extreme close up and so most of the background was cropped out. •Costume: Her costume isn't visible, but the photo shows her face covered in blood, as if she had just brutally murdered someone and is relishing the memory. •Typography: The tag line is structured down the middle of the poster, so that once you have processed her face and wonder who she is, you see her name, the movie title, right below, almost like an instant reply to a question. The movie title is at the centre bottom of the poster, which is a typical convention in posters, and the credits is at the very bottom with the release date, which is where they are commonly found. •Mood/Styling: The mood is psychologically disturbing as you see the carnal look in her bloodshot eyes with the blood dripping down her face, you can only wonder what horrific moments she's encountered. |
