Favourite horror movies: Final Destination 3, Orphan, Child's Play.
I have attempted to follow the 3 act structure in my trailer. I have attempted this by including an equilibrium where the characters are introduced as being normal and average teens who go out and enjoy their lives. This is accompanied the text "3 normal teenagers living their normal lives." This part of my trailer is then followed by the disequilibrium which shows my main character being persuaded and pressured by her friends to smoke. The reason i have included this scenario is to introduce a theme of the final girl. However, this was met unsuccessfully as "The Final Girl" is typically shown in slasher films, therefore, this was not a typical convention of a supernatural film. The final part of my trailer shows the last scene of my movie which desensitizes the audience. This is a huge disadvantage as it won't come across as scary to my audience and they would already be aware of how the movie is going to end, therefore, i must ensure that i do not do this in my next trailer.
The use of lighting and location has also impacted on how scary my trailer is. I have used a high-key lighting which is not a convention of horror movies as they typically use low-key lighting. The location of my trailer was filmed in a local park. This is an extremely bad location to film a horror movie trailer, and after carrying out more research into horror movies, they are usually filmed in dark, mysterious locations which can create a sense of enigma to the audience such as warehouses etc. Another convention of horror movie trailers which i should've used is stock scenes. This creates a feeling of suspense and would attract my target audience. Therefore, i must ensure that i use this convention when creating my next horror movie trailer. Name: Sam Yeboah

The teaser trailer for a film should follow the 3 act structure.
Act 1: Equilibrium Act 2: The disruption is introduced Act 3: Fast editing of the stock scenes that are typical of a horror film In the first act of the trailer the one or two of the characters are introduced and the tone of the film is set. This can be done through the actual location being shown. Obviously a location such as an abandoned warehouse or a graveyard would be good for a horror film. Lowkey lighting is very important for setting an scary and dark setting. Another way of setting a tense tone to the trailer is sound. The second act of a trailer should introduce the disruption. This can often be through small glimpses of the antagonist but it's important that the antagonist isn't fully shown or they aren't scary to the audience as they already have information on the antagonist or atleast their appearance. Act 3 should be the longest as it is meant to contain the many different stock scenes that can be expected in a horror. It is the longest part and becomes faster paced as the trailer approaches it's climax. The trailer may uses techniques such as strobes (which weren't present in my summer work) to create this fast paced tempo until there is a sudden jump scare or the trailer cuts to black and the last title slates fade in. |

The next trailer I attempt to make must have the 3 Step Structure. The mistake I made when creating the trailer was that I did not completely follow there structure. I started off with too much unnecessary footage of dialogue, there was not a proper tone set from the beginning. There should only be one main character in the trailer. When coming up to the second Act there should be a disequilibrium where everything goes wrong. Because I filmed a slasher I did not properly take into consideration the stock scenes and as a result not enough where added. The lighting was too high key and as result the footage was not as authentic as it should've been. Next time I should try and find locations that fit the tone of the movie and start shooting at a specific time because in this trailer I mostly shot in the daylight.
My trailer did follow the conventions of the sub-genre it was trying to replicate (Slasher), it had a mask, a phallic object, a final girl, and the killer's i identity remained a mystery, which was a positive. The movie was also far too long. When shooting my next trailer I should aim to make it as a teaser so I do not give away too much of the storyline. Name: Karl Henderson

My summer horror film trailer was for a slasher, and it was about a killer murdering some protagonists in a graveyard.
The equilibrium introduces the setting of the trailer, and also introduces only a few characters. This follows the convention of the equilibrium of many horror film trailers, as their purpose is to introduce some things to the audience, such as the location and some characters. The equilibrium should not reveal every character because there will be no surprise for the audience when they watch the full film. The disequilibrium reveals the killer, who has a knife, and is chasing one of the protagonists through the graveyard. It is conventional for something like this to happen in the disequilibrium as something has to go wrong. However, the killer is never fully revealed in trailers. Instead, only parts of the killer is revealed, so that it is still quite a surprise for the audience when the killer does eventually get completely revealed. But in my trailer, the killer is fully revealed so this does not follow this typical convention. The montage involves seeing the knife stuck in the tree. Also, we see the killer again, and the protagonists . We then see the killer walk past all of these protagonists, each one of the dead, as a result of this killer. The montage should be the longest part of a teaser trailer, and my trailer is. It should also show the most scary parts, and this one does. A stock scene in my teaser trailer is a killer with a knife. This is one of the most common stock scenes to see in a slasher horror film, so this is very conventional. Also, the killer is chasing a protagonist, which is another stock scene in my trailer. The tone of my summer teaser trailer is very good, because it was filmed at night time, and also it is set in a graveyard, which is a good setting for a horror film because of the scary and tense atmosphere of it. |
